Over the next few weeks I’ve asked award winning videographer Todd Vanslyck, director of Multi-Media at the University of Northwestern Ohio, to talk about "What Makes Great Video (and why)".
Todd has been in the Video and Broadcast Industry for 14 years. He has shot for the Discovery Channel, Health Network, Fox Sports Net and ESPN. Several of his commercials have aired nationally.
Todd is also an exclusive video contributor for iStockphoto.com. If you’re looking for great loopable backgrounds or beautiful stock video to use for your commercial, visit his site at www.istockphoto.com/editboy23. He and his family would very much appreciate it!

Well, just like anything else in life, it’s not just one thing that makes something great. It’s a combination of several things all working together. I’m going to show you a few things that, in my opinion, make up a great video. When I say video, I mean a commercial, a promotional video, news story, home movie or Hollywood Blockbuster. The ingredients are universal, no matter what kind of video it may be. I’m going to assume a couple of things for these blog entries. 1. You’re not a video professional. 2. We’re talking about making a commercial.
Over the next several entries I'll be talking about things like audience, purpose, videography, lighting, audio, graphics, and editing. All elements that can make great video! -Todd
